Wins Prestigious 2007 GCN Agency
Award for Enterprise Security
Innovation
FAA Tackles
Security Operations with ArcSight
Solution
CUPERTINO, Calif. - December 10,
2007 -
ArcSight, Inc., a leader in
enterprise security and compliance
management
solutions, today announced that
one of its customers, the Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA), has
been awarded the prestigious
2007 GCN Agency
Award from Government Computer
News for its security operations
system which makes extensive use of
ArcSight ESM.
The FAA's Cyber Security Management
Center (CSMC—formerly the Cyber
Security Incident Response Center or
CSIRC), which provides a full range
of network security services for the
entire Transportation Department,
implemented ArcSight Enterprise
Security Management (ESM) to
accurately identify network attacks
and speed response time. The GCN
Awards reviews more than 100
projects and selected the best
projects that exemplified the
success that can result when vision
and IT innovations are combined with
an attention to detail and a
willingness to collaborate.
"That the FAA has won this award
highlights how important the
ArcSight Platform has become as a
means of managing security for
increasingly dynamic and complex
infrastructures," said Reed Henry,
senior vice president, marketing and
business development, ArcSight.
"Security organizations at
government agencies have to deal
with hundreds of millions of events
from thousands of sources, every
day, and ArcSight is committed to
providing a solution that delivers
protection against threats."
The CSMC expanded in response, as
the sheer volume of information
coming from intrusion-detection
system (IDS) sensors meant it could
take as long as 12 hours to identify
a problem and notify the customer.
To solve this problem, the CSMC
chose ArcSight ESM after an 18-month
selection process. ArcSight ESM
consistently identified attacks
correctly, unlike some other
security management tools, and
handled the high volume of data
coming from IDS sensors, which look
at 2.4 million packets per second on
each server and generate 95,000
alerts a day. ArcSight ESM analyzes
each alert and passes suspicious
alerts for further analysis. About
two incidents a day require
attention, and the average response
time is down from eight hours to
eight minutes. In addition, the
faster and more advanced analysis of
incidents enabled by ArcSight ESM
allows CSMC to give its customer FAA
agencies advance warning on virus
and worm outbreaks.
