Director, Public Relations

ArcSight (ARST) is a leading provider of security and compliance solutions that intelligently identify and mitigate business risk and deliver a centralized view of enterprise-wide events across heterogeneous networks.

ArcSight is looking to hire a Director of PR, with a strong background of independently managing major press and media relations for a security and compliance-focused company. This senior-level professional will embody the combination of enterprise, mid-market and corporate communications expertise, credibility with top-tier broadcast and print media, strategic thinking and the maturity and judgment necessary to counsel company executives.

The successful candidate will be able to prioritize many competitive initiatives at once and possess the skills necessary to position thought leadership concepts, product launches and financial results while helping the organization navigate complex issues and communicate its unique point of view to different stakeholders.

This person will act as the primary press contact for a variety of products, solutions and thought leadership concepts. He/She will implement PR programs in the U.S., oversee programs globally and supervise external resources including agency management to ensure budgets and program requirements are met.

This candidate must also be proficient in financial communications in order to positively contribute to quarterly earnings announcements, corporate development announcements, (e.g., partnerships, mergers & acquisitions, etc.) As part of this, this candidate will need to have contacts in the financial press both broadcast and print. This role will be vital in our attempts at building a global interest and demand for our security and compliance solutions, and significant time will be spent supporting these efforts across several product categories.

A candidate must have a demonstrated track record in creating strategy for and executing security and compliance product launches. Proactive and creative product placement and execution of large-scale PR events are critical success factors for this position. Just as importantly, we are seeking someone with strong contacts and a demonstrated ability to place executives on major broadcast programs, and generate major business, consumer and technical press. . Other key attributes for this position include an ability to balance reactive and day-to-day PR with proactive contacts and discussions leading to coverage. Ability to create a network of proven and established press and media contacts within the business and technology PR communities is key while maintaining a solid professional reputation and credibility.

Detail-orientation, organization skills, flexibility and the ability to multi-task and prioritize are essential for this role, as is outstanding communication and influence skills as well as an entrepreneurial spirit. Strong writing and public speaking skills are a must.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides senior-level strategic consultation to the executive management.
  • Provides regular, ongoing advice of thought leadership opportunities and participates is the formulation and dissemination of the company story.
  • Oversee Worldwide Global Public Relations, including PR agencies.
  • Responsible for setting the PR launch strategy for each new product release and implementing the approved program. This includes everything from liaising with the appropriate product marketing contacts, determining the opportunity/level of support, developing compelling press messaging, managing the completion of associated tactics (i.e. WW spokesperson training, media tours, pre-briefings, press kits, public and hidden media Web sites, localization, press releases etc) and results reporting and analysis
  • Manages sensitive company announcements, including earnings-related media outreach, and handling of acquisition, executive and other business-related announcements. This individual must be very detail-oriented and, be able to confidently set the goals and strategy for a major news announcement and be willing to personally execute on key tactics without agency support.
  • Follows industry news related to enterprise security and provides regular, ongoing education and idea generation to help further ArcSight position as a security leader. PR also takes an active role in consulting with internal security experts to develop thought leadership positions and programs (IE contributed articles, blogs, media roundtables, etc)
  • Proactively maintains the company’s key relationships with the most influential security and business editors, oversees day-to-day incoming inquiries, and is responsible for the success of domestic and global media tours and briefings. Candidates should already possess solid relationships at major security outlets such as SC Magazine, CSO Magazine and others.
  • Leads PR efforts at major trade shows such as RSA, Interop, Black Hat and more. A successful candidate will have hosted media events for 20+ reporters and have direct knowledge of the details that make such an event successful
  • Ability to drive crisis communications that threaten brand reputation (for example, software vulnerabilities or bugs) and rapid response opportunities (mainstream news such as data breaches, virus attacks, social networking threats etc). Both require the Director of PR to be able to think very quickly/intelligently and generate results in a high-pressure environment.

Qualifications:

  • 6-8 years of PR experience (agency and corporate experience preferred) within security sector (at least six years security experience required)
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to achieve results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, often on very tight deadlines.
  • Full command of public relations concepts and has previous experience in the strategy and execution of PR activities.
  • Media relations skills extend to full spectrum and media (including business, trade, broadcast and social media) and across business units (consumer, enterprise and corporate).
  • Proven media relationships including exceptional results with top tier national business and trade media.
  • Ability to fully understand business issues and manage high impact and critical communications situations.
  • Strong ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to work with various levels of an organization and provide strategic communications counsel.
  • Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Experience managing PR agencies and overseeing programs globally (required).
  • A successful candidate will have previously managed mid-sized, geographically-dispersed team of employees and international agencies

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or Marketing
  • MBA Preferred

Marketing Communications Manager

This real time and historical view into external attacks, insider threats and compliance audit controls provides enterprises, MSSPs and government agencies with the intelligence and response capabilities required to effectively protect and manage their networks and businesses.

Job Description:

The marketing communications manager will be responsible for supporting ArcSight outbound communications efforts. This includes writing and overseeing the production of collateral such as product brief, solutions briefs, white papers and cases studies. Involvement with electronic direct mail, tradeshows, seminars, webinars, customer references and events. Support the corporate communications department by writing prospecting letters, running campaign rollouts and managing presentations. This role will be involved in both direct and indirect lead generation programs such as online events, advertising, speaking opportunities, customer case studies and collateral. S/he will work with the team to guide messaging from concept to production, develop content and project manage all deliverables.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver collateral to support our sales team including brochures, data sheets, white papers, sales guides, email templates, PPT, website content, customer case studies and more
  • Manage and execute on lead generation programs to increase leads and enhance the quality of leads delivered to the inside sales team
  • Create and mange presentations
  • Strong editing, proofing reading skills
  • Develop marketing foundation tools such as style guides, design guides and marketing portals
  • Able to implement minor design changes to existing collateral
  • Create innovative programs to address the installed base customers

Required Experience:

  • The candidate must have at least 5 years of marketing communications experience and a background in enterprise software.
  • A premium is placed on possessing a strong understanding of the enterprise security and compliance software market and solutions.
  • Demonstrated record of success in marketing communications for high-tech products and services.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills coupled with exceptionally strong writing, presentation and verbal communications abilities.
  • Must be extremely well organized and detail-oriented with ability to deliver the right message at the right time. This person must be a self-starter, highly motivated, flexible and energetic.
  • Experience in all channels of marketing including online, electronic direct mail, webinars, seminars, collateral development and advertising.
  • Requires strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products and multi-media communications including PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of a CRM solution such as salesforce.com and/or database systems a plus.
  • Ability to work across the organization at all levels to execute on all marketing communications programs.

Desired Experience:

  • Candidate will have been in the enterprise software field for 5 years with some experience in the security arena.

  • B.S. / B.A. degree required, preferably in communications or marketing.

ArcSight EnterpriseView products help customers understand who is on the network, what data they are seeing, and which actions they take with that data. These products combine ArcSight’s real time event analysis with feeds from identity management, database monitoring, and application monitoring products. The result is a complete view of user activity to prevent fraud or data theft

Position Responsibilities:

ArcSight is looking for a product marketing manager to launch and then guide the growth of these products. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with engineering, sales, press, analysts, and of course customers to bring awesome products to market. This candidate will be able to leverage ArcSight’s market share-leading and award winning platform technology to build compelling new products.

Required Experience:

This candidate should have experience with at least one security product, as well as one of the following: identity management products, database audit/monitoring products, or application/fraud monitoring products. The candidate should have at least 3 years experience in technical product marketing or product management. The candidate should be comfortable speaking in public, in front of customers, press, and analysts, as well as company executives. This position reports to the VP of Product Marketing.
